A Nation of Kindness starts with one…individual or ground up movement.
That was seen when SKM organised a kindred spirit circle networking session on 17th March 2015. It was an intimate gathering of 40 individuals and ground up movements (GUM) coming together to network and share ideas relating to kindness.
SKM ran a campaign on the theme of “A Nation of Kindness Starts with One”, encouraging everyone to take ownership and be more pro-active about being kind. The real-life stories and efforts of several important individuals helped to bring our campaign to life. We also had four young students whose creative approach on the campaign theme were transformed into colourful train cabin murals. We took the opportunity to recognise these Campaign Heroes at the session.
During the sharing session, we heard from three groups, The Volunteer Switchboard, Participate In Design and SgEatWithUs. The three speakers shared their motivations for starting their movements, past projects and aspirations for the future. It was a humbling experience to hear of their struggles and the amount of sweat and toil dedicated to their project. But it was also testament to the saying “you reap what you sow”, as these groups blossomed from ideas to sustainable movements that spread the message of kindness and graciousness in their own capacity.
We look forward to supporting more of such ideas and groups into sustainable movements to be our partners in spreading the message of kindness!
